TRASHBEAN™ is an independent design studio dedicated to eco-friendly designs. The brand concept revolves around the "4R" philosophy: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Recreate. This approach emphasizes:
- Reusing and empowering materials that have already been used,
- Reducing waste in design and production processes,
- Recycling materials to extend their lifecycle, and
- Recreating innovative product and graphic designs inspired by these principles.
Mascot Design & Development
Inspired by the process of recycling unqualified roasted coffee beans and discarded coffee sacks during coffee roasting, TRASHBEAN™ repurposes these materials to create a stuffed bear—the brand’s signature IP character.
The bear, named ZHA ZHA (meaning "waste/grounds" in Chinese), has a pair of sleepy eyes and always craves a fine cup of coffee to recharge. Representing the brand’s eco-friendly concept, ZHA ZHA embodies sustainability with its recycled materials and fills any room with the rich aroma of the unqualified coffee beans inside its body.
ZHA ZHA has been featured and will be featuring in the brand’s promotional materials and products, including clothing labels, posters, flyers, gift boxes, suitcase stickers, and calendars.
In 2024, ZHA ZHA was further developed into an animated sticker collection and officially launched on the WeChat ( China’s WhatsApp equivalent ) sticker platform, expanding its presence and connection with the audience.

Product Design - ZHA ZHA bag
More than 2,800 coffee sacks were abandoned after completing their mission of transporting green coffee beans from around the world to a coffee roasting factory. Each sack features colorful, unique prints indicating its place of origin. We repurpose these sacks into messenger bags for coffee lovers.
The bags are made from recycled coffee sacks and recyclable water-resistant film. Fabrics for each bag are cut from different sacks, ensuring every bag is one-of-a-kind. The removable clip-on strap can be reused with a new bag when the current one decomposes or becomes damaged.
