MOONBEAN is a Mid-Autumn Festival gift box packaging and product design for TRASHBEANTM, an eco-friendly design company.
The packaging maximizes sustainability—the box is made of recycled paper and can be repurposed into containers, while the lid doubles as a tea or food tray.
This gift box was designed during the pandemic, a time when many were unable to reunite with friends and family. Since the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the day when the moon is at its roundest and fullest—a symbol of reunion—we created this gift box to help clients express their longing and love."
The name MOONBEAN was inspired by the similarity in pronunciation between 月饼 (YueBing, "mooncake" in Chinese) and TRASHBEAN, aiming to bring a moment of light and joy to recipients during challenging times.
Inside the box, every product is customized:
- A coffee travel mug with an outer case containing coffee grounds,
- A messenger bag crafted from recycled coffee sacks,
- A cotton cinch bag, and
- Mooncakes shaped like ZHA ZHA (the brand mascot) and a coffee bean, colored to resemble the moon.
